Living by the Book the art and science of reading the Bible
written by Howard G. Hendricks and William D. Hendricks
When I first picked up this book, I wasn't sure exactly what I was getting myself into. I had questions, but I wasn't alone. This book is filled with questions, but, they are questions that are meant to help the reader find a better way to experience the Bible.
On page 352 there is this sentence; "The Bible's primary subject is God and His relationship with humankind." This book I feel is a very good way to help gain a deeper understanding of that relationship through His Word. How? Through the many questions it instructs the reader on finding answers. How to gain a deeper insight and faith based understanding. The book and its questions turn the reader into an inspector, a reporter, a scientist and more, all seeking answers. The usual who, what, when, where, how does this apply, what were the customs of the time, how does this fit this life, how does this fit me?
It does not however, just ask the questions, it gives the reader highly informative information on how to go about finding the answers to these questions and more themselves. It gives the reader reasons to stop and contemplate where they feel they currently are in their understanding and how to improve on that comprehension.
All in all, I found it to be a very informative read that held my attention and kept me wanting to learn more. After reading this book, I will look at my personal Bible study in an entirely new light.
